India also carries one of the highest rates of osteoporosis in Asia, with an estimated 50 million affected, the majority of them women, most of them unaware.

There’s a particular kind of silence that falls over a theatre when something real is happening on stage. Not the polite silence of an audience waiting for the next scene. The other kind. The held-breath kind.

That silence happened multiple times during Poonam Panddey’s debut performance in Kali Salwar and the people in that room are still talking about it.

Director Atul Satya Koushik’s staging of Saadat Hasan Manto’s iconic story was already anticipated. Manto adaptations carry weight. They attract serious theatre crowds, people who’ve seen a hundred productions and will quietly dissect yours over chai afterward. These are not easy audiences to impress.

Poonam impressed them.

What nobody quite expected was how unshowy she was. Screen actors stepping onto stage for the first time tend to compensate bigger gestures, louder voices, filling the space the way they imagine it needs to be filled. Poonam did the opposite. She got still. She got specific. And somehow that stillness filled the entire room.

Manto’s women are not simple creatures. They carry histories in their eyes, contradictions in their posture, whole worlds of unsaid things in a single exhale. Playing them requires an actor willing to be exposed not performed, not presented, but genuinely exposed.

Poonam was exposed up there. In the best possible way.

Her dialogue delivery had texture. The vulnerability in one line, the quiet defiance underneath it, the way grief and humor live side by side in Manto’s writing she found all of it. Not perfectly, because perfection isn’t the point with Manto. Truthfully. And truth on a live stage, in real time, in front of strangers, is its own kind of courage.

Every year, thousands of children get caught in the middle of a brutal legal war. On one side, you have a steady parent trying to keep the child's life safe and calm. But let's be honest about something, true love doesn't need a judge to force it. When a parent uses the court like a weapon, it's about their ego and pride, not their heart. 

If they truly cared about the child's feelings, they wouldn't need a court order to prove it.

The System’s Blind spot: Law vs. Emotion

The biggest challenge during legal litigation is that the system is fundamentally flawed. The law makers created rules based on cold structures, completely missing the emotional reality of a family.

How do you know if a parent is acting out of love or out of pride? 

It is simple: 

Love observes, understands, questions ‘How will this case affect my child? Are they happy? Are they safe?’ Love is willing to step back if it means the child gets some peace.

2.       The Silent Burden of the Primary Caregiver: In our society, a primary caregiver, especially a mother is unfairly scrutinized and judged for doing everything alone. The ego- driven parent will struggle into ‘neglect’, completely ignoring the reality of managing a household, protecting the child's daily peace, and carrying the entire mental and financial load single handedly. True parenting is seen in the quiet , daily sacrifices to keep the child safe from a toxic environment, not in the loud accusations of someone who only shows up to disrupt that peace.

3.       The Myth of Joint Cooperation: Courtrooms often push for ‘joint decisions’, but to an ego-driven parent, joint custody is just an open door to cause delays. They use legal loopholes to delay school admissions, hold back medical signatures, and disrupt the child’s routine just to keep a toxic grip on the child’s peace.

The Destruction of Future Relationships

This prolonged legal warfare does more than just exhaust the child’s today also it ruins their tomorrow.

A child growing up seeing the parent use court orders as weapons, their faith in the relationship is shattered. They grow up carrying a deep negative impact regarding commitment and trust.

What the western countries do in these cases?

In western countries, the system puts a massive emphasis on psychological evaluation, child support enforcement, and moving the case quickly and focuses heavily on the child’s mental health so the child’s life isn’t frozen. But here, long court battles force children to live in a ‘survival mode’ for years, which damages how they view relationships later in life.

The Judgmental Society:

The trauma doesn’t stay inside the courtroom, society brings it right to the child’s doorstep. We live in a society that needs to desperately understand that marriage is not everything, but a child’s peace is.

People look at a single mother or a child from a broken home and ask pathetic, insensitive and toxic questions. Society must change its thought process and stop this loop of interrogation. A child’s wellbeing their personal will and what they want for their own safety should always stand far above the legal pressure and societal judgment.

A New Addition to Education: Teaching Children their Rights

If adults refuse to change, we must prepare the children. It is time to teach about basic laws, personal boundaries, and their legal rights directly in school textbooks.

If children read and understand these things early they will know what is right and what is wrong. They won’t be easily manipulated by an abusive parent or a confusing legal system. They will have the strength to say and stand for themselves.

The toll it takes on a child's body 

Children cannot always find the words to say, ‘I am scared and exhausted’. So, their bodies speak for them. The deep stress of being caught in a court battle often shows up as: 

●      Trouble sleeping or sudden bed wetting (even if they are older)

●      Stomach aches, headaches and constant anxiety.

●      Falling behind in school because their mind is too tired to focus.

This is what happens when a child is forced into “survival mode” instead of just being allowed to be a kid.

If you are a child going through this please remember these three things:

1. You are not a prize. You are an individual. Your peace of mind matters more than any adult's pride.

2. This is not your fault. This is an adult problem. You do not owe anyone a relationship just because a piece of paper says so.

3. Look for your anchor. Lean on the parent who gives you stability. The parent who handles your school, your meals and your daily hugs is your safe harbor.

The Quiet Truth Always Wins

Ego is very loud in a courtroom. It makes a lot of noise. But the quiet truth of life which we live every day is much stronger.

The law calls it continuous care, but it is real parenting with love and warmth. It is the parent who has consistently been there, year after year, building a shield of love around you.

A judge can sign a paper, but a piece of paper cannot force a real bond. In the end, the parent who truly loves you will always put your peace of mind ahead of their own ego. And that is the truth that outlasts any court battle.

Prof. L. V. Gangawane was widely respected across Indian agricultural science for his unique ability to combine scientific rigour with practical, farmer-oriented research across a career spanning more than four decades. Born into an agrarian family, he made pioneering contributions in rhizosphere microbiology, fungicide resistance, integrated disease management, biofertilizer technology and sustainable agriculture, with particular relevance to semi-arid farming systems.

As Head of the Department of Botany at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and later as Emeritus Professor, he played a pivotal role in strengthening research infrastructure in plant pathology and microbiology and in mentoring successive generations of scientists and researchers. His international engagements included research collaborations and invited lectures at institutions such as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (London), the University of Cambridge, the University of Bristol, Swansea University, Cairo University, Kasetsart University (Thailand), the University of Malaya (Malaysia) and Al Ain University (UAE). The Government of India also selected him under its Cultural Exchange Programme to deliver scientific lectures in Egypt.

Notably, during the 1970s; a period when advanced facilities for human viral research were limited in India, Prof. Gangawane experimentally demonstrated that the Hepatitis-B virus could be propagated on tobacco leaves. This work opened new experimental pathways for subsequent virological and vaccine-related research and was acknowledged in the internationally renowned medical journal The Lancet in 1976.

A prolific scholar, Prof. Gangawane authored more than 280 research papers and developed recognised methods for controlling seed-borne diseases in pigeon pea. Deeply committed to public outreach, he appeared on Doordarshan’s “Aamchi Mati Aamchi Manse,” delivered talks on All India Radio, and wrote Marathi-language scientific literature to communicate agricultural science to farming communities. He guided 42 Ph.D. scholars and served as President of the Indian Phytopathological Society in 2006. His contributions were recognised with several honours, including the Maharashtra State Ideal Teacher Award (2002), the Prof. M. S. Pavgi Award and the P. R. Verma Award.

In the foreword to the national seminar volume Biofertilizer Technology Transfer, renowned agricultural scientist and architect of India’s Green Revolution, Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, wrote: “We owe a deep sense of gratitude to Dr. L. V. Gangawane for this labour of love.”

The Award and Oration have been designed to uphold the values Prof. Gangawane embodied throughout his life; scientific excellence, translational agricultural research, institution building, mentorship and dedicated service to farming communities. IPS stated that the initiative is expected to evolve into a distinguished national platform encouraging young scientists working in sustainable agriculture, plant health and food security.

“When a patient in their fifties comes in with a ruptured aortic aneurysm, you are not treating a medical emergency - you are managing a catastrophe,” says Dr. Bhavin L. Globally, aortic aneurysms are responsible for an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 deaths every year¹ - a toll experts say is disproportionately high given that the condition is both detectable and treatable. In India, the problem is compounded by low awareness, minimal screening culture, and a tendency to dismiss vague abdominal or back pain until it is too late.

The aorta is the body’s largest artery, running from the heart through the chest and abdomen. An aortic aneurysm occurs when a section of the arterial wall weakens and balloons outward - producing no pain, no symptoms, and no warning.² The two most common forms are the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) and the Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm (TAA). When either rupture, it causes catastrophic internal bleeding. Research shows ruptured AAA carries an overall mortality rate of 65 to 85 per cent, including patients who never reach hospital.³

Who Is Most at Risk

Men over 65 face a prevalence of four to eight per cent and are four to six times more likely than women to develop AAA⁴ - yet women, when affected, face a three to four times higher rupture risk at the same aneurysm size, largely because they are under-screened.⁵ Smoking accounts for approximately 75 per cent of all AAA cases; smokers are seven to eight times more likely to develop an aneurysm.⁶ Hypertension is present in more than 60 per cent of AAA patients and independently drives both growth and rupture risk.⁷ A family history of aortic aneurysm raises individual risk two to four times.⁸

The Case for Screening - and Modern Treatment

The most powerful number in this field is the gap in outcomes between planned and emergency treatment. Elective repair of an unruptured aneurysm carries a surgical mortality risk of less than one to two per cent in experienced centres.⁹ Emergency repair of a ruptured aneurysm carries a mortality risk of 40 to 50 per cent - for those who reach the operating table at all.³ A simple abdominal ultrasound - non-invasive, painless, and widely available across India - is sufficient to detect most aneurysms before they reach a dangerous size.¹⁰

For patients detected in time, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) has fundamentally changed what treatment looks like. A precision stent-graft is guided through a small groin puncture - no open incision, no prolonged anaesthesia. Once deployed, it creates a reinforced channel for blood flow and eliminates rupture risk. Clinical trials confirm EVAR reduces 30-day operative mortality by more than 60 per cent compared to open surgery.^9,11 Most patients go home within two to three days.

Five Things the People Must Know

●     Screen early. If you are a man over 65, a smoker, or have a close relative with an aortic aneurysm, ask your doctor about a screening abdominal ultrasound.

●     Control blood pressure. Uncontrolled hypertension is one of the most significant drivers of aneurysm growth and rupture.

●     Stop smoking. Tobacco causes cumulative structural damage to arterial walls; quitting at any age reduces risk.

●     Do not ignore persistent pain. A deep, persistent abdominal or back pain should not be dismissed - in some cases it signals an expanding aneurysm.

●     Act immediately. A sudden tearing pain in the chest, abdomen, or back is a medical emergency. Call for help without delay.

Children need to face small challenges to grow strong. For instance, if your child is struggling to tie their shoe laces or clean their room, do not jump in immediately to do it for them. Let them try the task for a few minutes. This small frustration is exactly how they learn to trust their own hands.

3. Following Nature's Clock - Birds don't use alarm clocks or cell phones, they simply follow the sun. When the sun goes down, they settle in and rest so they have energy for the next day. At night, our homes are often filled with bright overhead lights, TVs and tablets. This ‘fake sunlight’ tricks our brains into staying awake, making everyone tired and grumpy.

So parents, once it is dark outside, start dimming the lights inside and put the screens away. This tells your body and your child's body that it is time to wind up. It makes falling asleep much easier and helps everyone wake up feeling refreshed.

4. Life Skills Over Material World - A bird with a golden nest but weak wings is a sitting duck for predators. Similarly, a child with every material advantage but no practical life skills lacks the “wings” necessary to navigate a changing economic or social landscape. 

Spending time with children, teaching them real life skills. These wings (their skills) will help them for the rest of their lives, while twigs (their toys) will eventually be forgotten or broken.

5. Focusing on the Essentials - Birds don't hoard more food or materials than they can use, they take just enough to stay strong and keep the nest safe. They don't weigh themselves down with extra stuff. As parents we often feel pressured to give our kids everything: every toy, every trendy clothes and every expensive gadget, thinking it makes their life better.

Sufiya Sufi Runner recently broke her own Guinness World Record on the Manali–Leh route. On May 12, she begins her most ambitious undertaking yet — 5,000 km from Kanyakumari to Karakoram Pass, a tribute to the Indian Armed Forces. We sat down with her to understand what running really is, and what it demands of the person who stays with it long enough.

Everyone starts running for the same reason: fitness, weight loss, a doctor's advice. Where did it begin for you, and where did it take you?

For me, it all began with frustration.

I was stuck in a robotic airport routine, living the same day again and again, searching for a way out. I didn’t start running with big dreams—I just started with 3 km in a park, looking for a little fitness and a little peace.

But something changed.

Running became my form of meditation. With every step, I could feel a shift within myself—mentally, emotionally, physically. I kept showing up every day, not knowing where it would lead.

And somewhere along the way, it stopped being just a habit. It became my passion.

It became my purpose.

It took me to heights I never imagined—into the world of ultra running. And I never stopped.

You've described running as the most honest conversation you'll ever have with yourself. What does that mean?

When I started, I wasn’t chasing distance or records—I was searching for a purpose. I needed something that could bring me peace, especially mentally.

And running gave me that.

With every step, there are no distractions, no noise—just me and my thoughts. It feels like meditation in motion, where I connect with myself on a deeper level.

Out there, I can’t hide. I face my doubts, my fears, my strength—everything. And in that silence, I find clarity.

India's top CEOs and founders are increasingly turning to running. Why do you think

that is?

And I think there’s a simple reason behind it.

Running is one of the purest sports—there’s no dependency, no complex setup. You don’t need a team, a ground, or special resources. It’s just you, your running shoes, and the open road.

For people leading intense professional lives, every day can become a fixed routine—meetings, decisions, pressure. Running gives that space.

It clears your mind, brings you back to yourself, and creates a sense of freedom that’s hard to find anywhere else. Out there, titles don’t matter—everyone is just a runner.

And the most beautiful part is this: once you truly start enjoying every step, every breath, every moment—you don’t want to stop.

It stops being just exercise. It becomes a part of who you are.

You often say the fitness fades, but the resilience doesn't. Can you explain that?

For me, “fitness fades, but resilience doesn’t” comes from everything I have lived through on the road.

Fitness is temporary. It goes up and down—injuries happen, fatigue builds, the body has limits. There are days when the pace drops, when the legs feel heavy, when the body simply doesn’t respond.

But resilience is different.

Resilience is what makes me show up again the next day. It’s what keeps me moving when I am already exhausted, when conditions are harsh, when nothing feels easy. It’s built through every early morning, every long kilometre, every moment where quitting feels like an option—but she chooses to continue.

In my journey—from starting with just 3 km runs to taking on extreme endurance challenges across countries—fitness helped me begin.

But resilience is what kept me going.

Because at the highest level of endurance, it’s never just about how strong your body is. It’s about how strong your mind becomes when your body starts to give up.

And that strength doesn’t fade.

On May 12, you begin a 5,000 km run from Kanyakumari to Karakoram — the first civilian to attempt this route. Is this about a sixth Guinness World Record?

It has always been my dream to run on the Karakoram. And now, I finally have the opportunity to turn that dream into reality through this 5000 km journey from Kanyakumari to Karakoram.

Yes, this attempt is also for my sixth Guinness World Record—but for me, it’s more than just a record.

Every time I take on a high-altitude challenge, it’s my way of paying tribute to the Indian Armed Forces. What we call an “adventure,” they live every single day in the harshest conditions, at extreme altitudes, far away from their families.

We can run for passion. They stand there for the nation. Through this run, I carry both my dream and my respect.

This journey is not just about breaking records, it’s about running with purpose, pride, and gratitude for the country.

You will be the first Indian to touch Karakoram . What does that mean to you?

Starting from Kanyakumari and finishing at the Karakoram - it gives me goosebumps every time I think about it.

From the southern edge of India to one of the highest, toughest points in the country… it’s not just a run, it’s a complete journey across extremes.

By the time I reach Karakoram, I know my body will be completely drained. I can’t even imagine the level of exhaustion—but this will be the first time I finish a run at 18,000 feet, in the lap of the Karakoram range.

That thought alone fascinates me.

It’s not just about reaching the destination. It’s about what it represents.

Running across the entire country, pushing beyond limits, and finishing where very few can even stand—it’s a matter of pride.

Running for the country. Running for a dream.

What is the one thing you want every Indian to take away from this run?

If there’s one thing I want every Indian to take away from this run, it’s this—step out of your own limits.

We all live inside boundaries we create in our minds. But the moment you break that shell, everything changes.

With a positive mindset, hard work, self-belief, and unbreakable faith, you can reach heights you never even imagined.

That’s exactly what happened with me. I just kept believing, kept showing up, and kept breaking my own limits.

And beyond personal success, I want people to feel pride in our country.

Because serving the nation isn’t only about wearing a uniform - it’s also about being a responsible, strong, and positive citizen.

If we all grow, we all rise—together as a nation.

Last question — what do you want someone who just started running to know?

To anyone who has just started running, I’d say this - Start slow and build gradually. There’s no rush.

Run for yourself, not for anyone else. Keep a positive mindset and allow the process to unfold.

Running has a way of giving you peace, clarity, and relief—if you stay consistent. Trust the process. Be patient with yourself.

And most importantly, enjoy every single step of the journey. Because that’s where the real magic is.

Science behind why discipline often fails?

When a child is in the middle of a meltdown, their logical brain has effectively gone offline and what dominates is the emotional center.

The reality behind is when a child is in fight, flight or freeze mode at that time they are physically incapable of learning a lesson. Here major mistakes we make as parents, we punish them in this state, and we add more stress to an already overloaded system. This does not teach them how to behave rather it teaches them that they are alone when they are at their worst.

How to Co-Regulate?

Co-regulation is the process where the parent or an adult uses their own calm, regulated state to help anchor a child who is drowning in emotion. It is the bridge that helps a child move from chaos back to clarity. At this stage a parent is the thermostat, not the thermometer, you set the temperature rather than just reflecting it.

How to move from discipline to connection:

1.The Pause before the Push - Before addressing the child's behavior it is important to check your own temperature. If you are angry, your child's nervous system will see a threat and stay in survival mode. Taking one deep breath and reminding yourself ‘My child isn't giving me a hard time, my child is having a hard time’, will change the situation completely.

2.Connection vs. Isolation - We want our children to reflect on their choices but they can't do that when they are alone and upset. Sending a child away to a room to think about what they did usually makes them feel resentful, not thoughtful. So instead of scolding and isolating them, hold them to calm down with you nearby. Your physical presence sends a signal to their system that they are safe. Once they are calm, they are finally in a mental space where they can actually think about what they did wrong.

3.Naming the feeling not just the action - Help them name the emotion so they can understand it. By addressing the behavior e.g. stop hitting, stop yelling we ignore the emotion they are trying to express. If you name that feeling or emotion you are helping them decode their own internal mess. This helps their thinking brain to be active again because they suddenly feel seen and understood.

4.Setting firm boundaries - Connection is not about letting things slide. If a child is hurting others or themselves, step in. Use a calm and firm voice to stop the behavior then get back to connection. The goal isn't just to stop the crying but it is to teach your child how to handle their own big feelings. Every time you stay calm while they are storming, you are teaching their brain how to eventually calm itself down.

What is the key ingredient then?

If we want to teach our child a new habit or a skill, we must be consistent and firm.

Children always crave predictability. When we are consistent in our responses and firm with the boundaries, the child will feel secure. They will learn that they can count on you to keep the rules clear, even when you will be their supportive co - regulator. Consistency is what turns a lesson into a habit.

The most vital part of this is separating your moods from your parenting. It is natural to have difficult days, but your child’s boundaries shouldn’t change just because you had a stressful afternoon. If we scold them only when we are in a bad mood, or let things slide when we are in a good one, it creates confusion. Your child needs to know that the rules are steady, regardless of how you are feeling that day. By keeping your reactions predictable and steady, you create a safe, stable foundation they can trust.

To all the parents, you won't be perfect. There will be days you lose your cool. When that happens just repair the bond. Apologizing to your child, it is the most powerful way to show your child how to own their mistakes. Discipline is about control while connection is about growth. When we stop being the judge and start becoming the co-regulator we don't just see better behavior but also we build a bond that can withstand the storm.

The patient had previously undergone surgical tricuspid valve replacement in 2011 using a bioprosthetic valve (Perimount 29 mm) in the context of a right atrial mass. Over time, the valve degenerated, as is typical with bioprosthetic valves, occurring in her case after nearly 15 years. When she presented again, she was found to have torrential tricuspid regurgitation along with significant valve gradients (peak/mean: 16/10 mmHg) and severe right ventricular dysfunction, placing her in a very high-risk category.

Given the complexity of her condition, she had been declined for further intervention at multiple leading centres across the country.

At Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, the Heart Valve team, led by interventional cardiologist Dr Gautam Naik as the primary operator, undertook a transcatheter valve-in-valve procedure, an advanced, minimally invasive technique. Surgical expertise and post-procedural intensive care support were provided by Dr Mukesh Goel and Dr Deepa Sarkar respectively, in conjunction with the hospital’s cardiac intensive care team.

A Sapien Ultra Resilia 29 mm transcatheter heart valve was successfully implanted within the failing surgical valve. Intra-procedural transesophageal echocardiography confirmed complete elimination of the regurgitation, with an excellent immediate post-procedural gradient of just 2 mmHg.

The post-operative period, however, posed significant challenges. The patient continued to have right ventricular dysfunction, accompanied by low blood pressure and reduced urine output in the initial days. She required intensive care support, including inotropes and careful fluid management.

Over the following days, her condition steadily improved. Right ventricular function began to recover, urine output normalized, and her blood pressure stabilised, allowing gradual withdrawal of inotropic support.

She was discharged within six days in stable condition. At one-week follow-up, she reported dramatic symptomatic improvement and has since returned to her home country.

Doctors at Apollo described the case as a “grand success,” highlighting not just the technical achievement but the meaningful clinical recovery in a patient who had exhausted conventional options.

“This case underscores the evolving role of transcatheter therapies in managing complex valvular heart disease, especially in patients considered inoperable,” said Dr Naik. “What makes this especially rewarding is the patient’s recovery despite significant pre-existing right ventricular dysfunction.”

The case adds to the growing body of evidence supporting minimally invasive valve-in-valve therapies and reinforces the capability of Indian centres in performing cutting-edge structural heart interventions.

Nirbhay Arya raised thoughtful and systematic questions related to concepts such as divine incarnation, liberation (moksha), and the nature of an omnipotent God.

Observers present at the event noted that the depth and sharpness of his questions appeared to momentarily surprise and challenge the Shankaracharya, drawing heightened attention from the audience. His confidence and continuity in presenting counter-arguments further strengthened the intensity of the exchange.                                   

The moment also carried historical significance. Kashi has long been a center of scriptural debates, and it is remembered that Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of the Arya Samaj, had also engaged in similar debates in the city. Many observers viewed Nirbhay Arya’s participation as a continuation of that tradition, symbolically returning to the same intellectual ground.

The interaction highlighted a rare instance where a young participant actively engaged in traditional scriptural discourse with an established religious authority, creating an atmosphere of inquiry, debate, and philosophical exchange. Following the discussion, the event continued to generate conversations among attendees and on social platforms, with many noting the significance of youth participation in classical philosophical traditions.  This episode has brought renewed attention to the enduring culture of debate in Kashi and the role of young scholars in engaging with long-standing intellectual traditions. While speaking to the press, Nirbhay’s associate and Arya Samaj preacher from West Bengal, Sandeepan Roy, stated that this marks a significant victory for the ideas of the Arya Samaj.

The initiative adopts a community-led approach, where Community Resource Persons and local volunteers drive planning, outreach, and service delivery. The initiative focused on extending essential maternal and child health support to under-served populations who fall outside the coverage of existing Community Kitchen Centers (CKCs). Despite being newly introduced, the model received strong participation and acceptance from local communities

A key focus of the programme has been last-mile service delivery through convergence with government departments, including health and ICDS. This collaboration has enhanced access to ANC and PNC services, growth monitoring, and institutional delivery support, ensuring that vulnerable populations are better connected to essential public health systems.

The programme has resulted in notable improvements across key indicators in Dantewada and Bastar, where baseline levels were initially low. Maternal nutritional status (BMI, weight-for-age, and haemoglobin levels) improved from 58.19% to 60.34%. Over 85% of women and 91% of children participating in growth monitoring reported weight gain. The initiative also contributed to increased completion of recommended ANC visits, strengthened referral and follow-up systems, and improved early identification of high-risk cases. Additionally, the program facilitated 78 institutional deliveries.

As part of the programme, baby care kits and mother care kits were distributed to support maternal and child wellbeing. Mass level awareness programs organised through street plays in local context. A convergence meeting was also organised with participation from key government stakeholders, recognising the contributions of frontline workers, Community Resource Persons, and volunteers in strengthening the initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dola Mohapatra, CEO, Rise Against Hunger India, emphasised the importance of collective action: “Sustainable improvements in maternal and child nutrition are only possible when communities lead the change and systems respond effectively. Our approach integrates nutrition support with health services, behaviour change, and community engagement to ensure long-term impact.”

The event concluded with a joint commitment from community members, frontline workers, and government representatives to further strengthen coordination and sustain the progress achieved.

Two-day scientific conclave, organised by the Indian Society for Malaria and Other Communicable Diseases  (ISMOCD) in collaboration with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), examines advances in urban pest  management and charts a science-led path forward for India's cities.

01st May 2026 | Ahmedabad: A national technical conclave on advances in urban pest management and vector control  concluded in Ahmedabad on 28 April 2026, bringing together senior public health leaders, government officials, armed  forces medical specialists, and scientific institutions for two days of focused scientific exchange. The conclave addressed  the growing burden of dengue, malaria, and chikungunya in India's rapidly expanding cities, and the need for systematic,  evidence-based, integrated strategies to manage them effectively.

Organised by the Indian Society for Malaria and Other Communicable Diseases (ISMOCD) in collaboration with  Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and supported by Envu India, the conclave drew participants from national  and state public health programmes, the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, academic institutions, and  international scientific contributors. Sessions covered the epidemiology of dengue, malaria, and chikungunya in  Ahmedabad's urban setting; advances in surveillance, including ovitrap-based monitoring with AI-assisted analysis; the  WHO-aligned Integrated Vector Management framework; the Urban Malaria Scheme and National Urban Health Mission;  preparedness for vector-borne disease control during mass-gathering events; and some innovations in public health  insecticides. Envu contributed an international perspective on integrated urban vector management, drawing on  experience from the iDEM (Integrated Dengue Epidemiology and Management) programme in Malaysia.

Envu India's support for this conclave is grounded in a conviction the company holds about the significant opportunity to  advance mosquito control in Indian cities. Research by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), India, found that  the standard municipal thermal fogging mixture is 95 per cent diesel and 5 per cent insecticide, with Delhi alone  estimated to consume 4.5 lakh litres of diesel in a single fogging season, comparable to the daily fuel use of over 2,000  cars. The WHO's guidance on Integrated Vector Management recommends going further: addressing larvae and  interrupting the breeding cycle for sustained, measurable impact, rather than relying on adult mosquito knockdown  alone. Envu believes Indian cities are ready for that more complete approach, and offers water-based, WHO Pre-Qualified  vector control formulation combined with safer larvicidal solutions that make it possible. Envu welcomes engagement  from public health authorities, urban local bodies, and state vector control programmes on what that transition could  mean in practice for their city or district. 

"Vector-borne diseases, caused by viruses, bacteria, and parasites, account for over 17% of infectious diseases globally,  all transmitted through vectors. India has made remarkable progress in controlling these diseases. Malaria deaths have  declined from eight lakh annually at independence to just 83 in 2023. Kala-azar cases dropped from 9,241 in 2014 to  449 in 2024, nearing elimination, while over 100 districts have eliminated lymphatic filariasis as a public health  problem. Dengue mortality has also reduced significantly. These achievements reflect India's sustained commitment to  disease control," said Padma Shri Prof. Dr. Aditya Prasad Dash, former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tamil  Nadu, and former WHO Adviser.

He added, "India aims to eliminate malaria, lymphatic filariasis, and kala-azar by 2030. Achieving this, especially in  urban areas, requires stronger collaboration among scientific institutions, government bodies, and municipal agencies.  Growing partnerships between academia, industry, and research organisations in innovation, technology transfer, and  policy are key to this effort. Strengthening such collaborations will be critical for achieving India's Sustainable  Development Goals."

The most powerful part of Prahlad's story was that he refused to react. While the king was a storm of anger and ego, Prahlad was a calm ocean of faith and devotion. He did not shout to be powerful but his calmness was his strength. Response is a choice, reaction is a trap. We can teach our children that getting angry back at someone usually means they have won control over your emotions.

Next time your child faces a high pressure situation where someone is being bossy or unfair they don't have to scream to win. Anger is a fire that needs your reaction to stay alive. By being calm and steady, they will starve the fire until it has no choice but to go out.

3. Narasimha: Faith activates Protection: 

When things were at their absolute worst, Prahlad's faith activated the divine. Lord Vishnu appeared from a plain stone pillar as Narasimha Bhagwan - half-lion half-man. He proved that help doesn't always come from the sky, it can burst out of a stone if your faith is steady. Let’s teach our kids that when they stand up for what is right, the entire universe is on their side. Help might come from a teacher, a new friend or a sudden change in luck- but it will come.

Holika’s Mirror 

When we look at the fire of Holi, we often focus on the miracle of Prahlad, but we should also look closely at the failure of Holika (Prahlad's aunt). She entered the flames wrapped in a boon that she believed made her untouchable to fire but her intentions were to harm Prahlad. The wind shifted, the boon flew away and she got burnt into ashes. The most vital lesson we can share with our children: 

The Illusion of the ‘BOON’: In today's world the boon is often social status, unfair connections or temporary safety. These things look like armor but they are as thin as Holika’s boon. They only work when conditions are perfect.

This Holi, let's remind our children , the mud world throws at you eventually dries and falls off, but the color of your character stays forever. We celebrate the Prahlad in our children - the ones who know that you don't need a ‘boon’ to be safe when you have a soul that is fireproof. ‘Let the fire take the shadows, we are here for the light’.
