IIHMR University Strengthens Public Healthcare with Exclusive Training for Punjab’s Senior Medical Officers

Jaipur : IIHMR University, Jaipur, successfully concluded a five-day customized Training Program on Hospital Management for 28 Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) of the Government of Punjab. The program was designed to strengthen healthcare delivery in Punjab by equipping senior medical officers from Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals with advanced managerial competencies.

Welcoming the participants, Dr. P.R. Sodani, President, IIHMR University, Jaipur, highlighted the institution’s role in capacity building for the healthcare sector, noting that professionals from more than 40 countries have benefitted from its short-term training programs. “As one of the very few institutions in India to offer structured hospital management training for government officers, we continue to pioneer healthcare leadership development,” he stated.

In the valedictory session, Dr. Balbir Singh, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Medical Education & Research, Government of Punjab, emphasized that building management capacity among senior medical officers is essential for strengthening hospital systems and achieving greater efficiency. He reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to send more participants for such programs to IIHMR University, describing it as a globally recognized leader in healthcare management education. 

Addressing the state specific healthcare priorities, program covered key areas such as management of OPD, IPD, Emergency and support services, hospital operations, hospital quality and accreditation, management of human resources, disaster preparedness of the hospital, and bio-medical waste management. 

Dr. Sandesh Kumar, Program Coordinator, shared that the training program aimed to enhance the participants' managerial competencies to manage hospitals better.   Dr. Mahendra Kumar gave a vote of thanks to the dignitaries, faculty, administration, and participants.
